ਡੈਸਕ- ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਚ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਫਲਸਤੀਨੀ ਸਮਰਥਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਸ ਹਫਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ-ਹਮਾਸ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਰੁਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ, ਅੰਤਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਕਨਵੋਕੇਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਵਤ ਵਿਘਨ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਗੁੰਜਾਇਸ਼ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
17 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਦੇ 46 ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੈਂਪਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ 2,400 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਬ੍ਰਾਊਨ, ਨਾਰਥਵੈਸਟਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਟਗਰਜ਼ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਇਕ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਸੀਐਲਏ ਸਮੇਤ ਕੁੱਝ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਲਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਘਨ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਰਿਵਰਸਾਈਡ ਸਥਿਤ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਕਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਮਝੌਤਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾਵਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਇਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਪਣੇ ਨਿਵੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਕਰਨਗੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਾਜ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨਗੀਆਂ।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਟਗਰਜ਼ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਦੁਪਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਇਕ ਅਰਬ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਰੁਧ ਜਵਾਬੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹੋਈ। ਰੋਡ ਆਈਲੈਂਡ ਵਿਚ ਬ੍ਰਾਊਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੰਗਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ‘ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਜਤਾਈ।
ਫਿਲਾਡੇਲਫੀਆ ਦੀ ਟੈਂਪਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਰਾਲਫ ਯੰਗ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੁੱਝ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੈਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੀ ਰਣਨੀਤੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹੁਣ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਅਗਲੇ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਤਕ, ਗਾਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਗਬੰਦੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ”
