ਬਿ੍ਰਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ’ਚ ਜਨਵਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਜੁਲਾਈ ਤੱਕ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਲਈ 1,455 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ
ਬੀ. ਸੀ. ਕੋਰੋਨਰਜ਼ ਸਰਵਿਸ ਦੇ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਜਨਵਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਲਾਈ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ, ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 1,455 ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਅਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੀਆਂ ਦਵਾਈਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਗੁਆ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸੱਤ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ’ਚ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ’ਚ ਲਗਭਗ 6 ਮੌਤਾਂ ਹਨ।
ਮੰਗਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਇਹ ਅੰਕੜੇ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜੁਲਾਈ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਮੌਤਾਂ ’ਚ ਪੰਜ ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੂਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਚਾਰ ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਮੁੱਖ ਕੋਰੋਨਰ ਲੀਜ਼ਾ ਲੈਪੋਂਟੇ ਨੇ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਬਿਆਨ ’ਚ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘‘ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੇ ਡਰੱਗ ਸੰਕਟ ਦੇ ਘਟਣ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।’’ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੇ ਨਸ਼ੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਪਲਾਈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸੂਬੇ ’ਚ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਗਿਣਤੀ ’ਚ ਮੌਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਜੁਲਾਈ ’ਚ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਨਸ਼ੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ 88.4 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਮੌਤਾਂ ’ਚ ਫੈਂਟਾਨਿਲ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੇ ਐਨਾਲਾਗ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਨ। ਲੈਪੋਂਟੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਮਾਂਤਰੀ ਓਵਰਡੋਜ਼ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਦਿਵਸ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ, ਦੋਸਤਾਂ, ਸਹਿਕਰਮੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘‘ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਜ਼ੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਗ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੋਕੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਮੌਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਹੋਰ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਜਨਤਕ ਸਿਹਤ ਐਮਰਜੈਂਸੀ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਜੋਖਮ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਾਨੀ ’ਤੇ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਛੇ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।’’
ਸਾਲ 2016 ਦੇ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ’ਚ ਓਵਰਡੋਜ਼ ਸੰਕਟ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਤਕ ਸਿਹਤ ਐਮਰਜੈਂਸੀ ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਘੱਟੋ ਘੱਟ 12,739 ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਅਨ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੀਆਂ ਦਵਾਈਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ।
ਇੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੁਲਾਈ ’ਚ, ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ’ਚ 83 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਅੰਕੜਾ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਤੁਲਨਾ ’ਚ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ। ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ 66 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਲੋਕ 30 ਤੋਂ 59 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੇਲ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਜੁਲਾਈ ’ਚ 18 ਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਸ਼ੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਾਜਾਇਜ਼ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੌਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਉਮਰ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਮੌਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਸੰਖਿਆ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ’ਚ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਲਈ ਸੀ। ਕੋਰੋਨਰਜ਼ ਸਰਵਿਸ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਬੀ. ਸੀ. ’ਚ 10 ਤੋਂ 59 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਰਨ ਡਰੱਗਜ਼ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲਾਪਣ ਹੈ।
