SOUTHAMPTON, AUGUST: Jonny Bairstow’s blistering 82 off 41 and 79-run partnership between Sam Billings and David Willey helped England defeat Ireland in the second one-day match at Ageas Bowl on Saturday.
Winning the toss, Ireland decided to bat first. But, England bowlers did not allow Irish batsmen to settle on the crease as the visitors were 91 for six. But, Curtis Campher came to the rescue and scored 68 off 87 with eight boundaries. With the help of tailenders, Ireland managed to post 212 runs on the board in 50 overs.
England spinner AU Rashid picked up three wickets for 34 runs in his 10 overs. With this, he also completed 150 wickets in his international one-day career.
While chasing the target, England lost its first wicket on the third delivery of the innings. Jason Roy could not open his account and was dismissed by CA Young. But Bairstow steered the England innings before they stumbled in the middle of their innings. At the end, Billings and Willey took their side to home. With this win, England have taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. England won the 1st ODI comfortably by six wickets. The final match will be played on August 4.
