ਇੱਕ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸੂਚੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਲਗਭਗ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੈੰਕਿੰਗ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਗਿਰੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਗਿਰਾਵਟ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਫੰਡਿੰਗ ਵਾਲੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇਬਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੀ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਟੱਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ‘ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫਾਰ ਵਰਲਡ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਰੈਂਕਿੰਗਜ਼’ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੂਚੀ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀਆਂ 38 ਰੈਂਕਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 37 ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਪਛੜ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਰਹੀ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ 23ਵੇਂ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਸਰਵੋਤਮ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਮੈਕਗਿਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਇੱਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਖਿਸਕ ਕੇ 28ਵੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ 49ਵੇਂ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਅਲਬਰਟਾ 82ਵੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਮਾਂਟਰੀਅਲ 126ਵੇਂ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹੀ।
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਰੈਂਸ ਬਿਸ਼ਨੋਈ ਗੈਂਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਪਰਾਧਿਕ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ ਤਿੰਨ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਧੜੇ ਚਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਆਰਜ਼ੀ ਨਿਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ‘ਫੁੱਟ-ਸੋਲਜਰ’ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਐਡਮਿੰਟਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਂਸਟੇਬਲ ਅਤੇ ‘ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਏ ਆਈ -ਐਕਸਟੋਰਸ਼ਨ’ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਕੇਵਿਨ ਸੇਂਟ ਲੂਈਸ ਨੇ ‘ਇਮੀਗ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਐਂਡ ਰਿਫਊਜੀ ਬੋਰਡ ਆਫ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ’ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨਿਕਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਖੁਲਾਸਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਾਂਚ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਗੈਂਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੁੱਟ ਪੈਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੁਣ ਕਈ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਇੱਕੋ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਲੰਘੇ ਐਤਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨਵਜੰਮੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਸ਼ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ 23 ਸਾਲਾ ਮਹਿਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪੀਲ ਰੀਜਨਲ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ 8:30 ਵਜੇ ਕੇਨੈਡੀ ਰੋਡ ਨੌਰਥ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਲੀਅਮਜ਼ ਪਾਰਕਵੇਅ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਸ਼ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਸੀ। ਐਕਟਿੰਗ ਇੰਸਪੈਕਟਰ ਮੈਥਿਊ ਮਿਲਰ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੌਕੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਅਫਸਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਸ਼ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਕਾਰ ਨਿਰਮਾਤਾ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਹੁੰਡਈ ਨੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਖ਼ਤਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਦੇਨਜ਼ਰ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ 80,000 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਗੱਡੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਮੰਗਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਟ੍ਰਾਂਸਪੋਰਟ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਨੋਟਿਸ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਡੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਫਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਖ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਦਸਾ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਵੱਧ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੰਪਨੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਗੱਡੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਫਰੰਟ ਕੈਮਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਫਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਖ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਗੱਡੀ ਦਾ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਜਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਆਏ, ਅਚਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰੇਕ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਚਲਦੀ ਗੱਡੀ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰੇਕ ਲਗਾ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਾਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਟੱਕਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਕੈਲਗਰੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲ ਸੜਕ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਹੋਈ ਗੋਲੀਬਾਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਐਲਬਰਟਾ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨੇ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਜਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਵਕੀਲ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੁਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੱਫੀ ਪਾ ਲਈ। ਜਿਊਰੀ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਲਗਭਗ 14 ਘੰਟੇ ਦੀ ਲੰਬੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਕਿ ਆਰਥਰ ਪੇਨਰ ਅਤੇ ਐਲੀਜਾ ਸਟ੍ਰਾਬੇਰੀ ਨੇ 6 ਅਗਸਤ, 2024 ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਸੜਕ ‘ਤੇ ਰੌਕੀ ਵਿਊ ਕਾਉਂਟੀ ਦੇ 45 ਸਾਲਾ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਕੋਲਿਨ ਹਾਫ਼ ਦੀ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
