ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ‘ਮਿਸ ਵਰਲਡ 1994’ ਬਣੀ, ਐਸ਼ਵਰਿਆ ਲਈ ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ 1997 ‘ਚ ਮਰੀਨਾ ਰਤਨਮ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਫਿਲਮ ‘ਇਰੁਵਰ’ ‘ਚ ਮੌਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਆਦੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ‘ਚ ਐਸ਼ਵਰਿਆ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਫਿਲਮ ‘ਔਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ’ ਬੌਬੀ ਦਿਓਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ। ਇਸਦੇ ਲਈ, ਉਸਨੇ ਸਰਵੋਤਮ ਡੈਬਿਊ ਅਭਿਨੇਤਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਕ੍ਰੀਨ ਅਵਾਰਡ ਵੀ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਈ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਦੀ ਰਾਣੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਸੰਜੇ ਲੀਲਾ ਭੰਸਾਲੀ ਦੀ ‘ਹਮ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਚੁਕੇ ਸਨਮ’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਦੇਵਦਾਸ’ ਕੀਤੀ।
