Father-son duo booked for sacrilege; Caught carrying Sri Guru Granth Sahib in suitcase at Amritsar airport

AMRITSAR, NOVEMBER 19: Amritsar Police on Thursday nabbed a father-son duo carrying Sikh holy book Sri Guru Granth Sahib in a suitcase at city’s International Airport, according to local reports.

The duo was taken into custody for violating the ‘Sikh Rayat Maryada’ by not following the religious protocol of carrying the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

They have been identified as Jawala Singh (father) and Jasvir Singh (son).

According to reports, Jawala and Jasvir were carrying two copies of the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib in a suitcase at Shri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport.

It has been learned that the father-son duo was carrying the holy books to Pune from Moga. A few religious groups and police reached the airport after learning about the incident.

The police have booked them for sacrilege and the case has been registered under Section 295 (destruction, damage, or defilement of a place of worship or an object held sacred) of IPC.
