ਸੰਗੀਤ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੀ
ਆਪਣੀ ਮਖਮਲੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਦਿਲ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗ਼ਜ਼ਲ ਸਮਰਾਟ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 8 ਫਰਵਰੀ 1941 ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਗੰਗਾਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਰਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਮਨੀ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੌਕੀਨ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਵੱਲ ਝੁਕਾਅ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਸਾਲ 1965 ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਆ ਗਏ।
ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ
ਜਦੋਂ ਜਗਜਤੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ-ਰੋਟੀ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ 1994 ‘ਚ ਫਿਲਮ ‘ਅਵਿਸ਼ਕਾਰ’ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ‘ਬਾਬੁਲ ਮੋਰਾ ਨਾਹਰ’ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਐਲਬਮ ‘ਦਿ ਅਨਫੋਰਗੇਟੇਬਲਜ਼’ ਸਾਲ 1976 ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਿੱਟ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਗ਼ਜ਼ਲਾਂ ਗਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਸੰਦ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
ਸ਼ਾਦੀਸ਼ੁਦਾ ਚਿਤਰਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
ਉਹ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਚਿਤਰਾ ਸ਼ੋਮ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਚਿਤਰਾ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਧੀ ਮੋਨਿਕਾ ਸੀ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਚਿੱਤਰਾ ਦੀ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ਸ਼ੀਲ ਗਾਇਕ ਸੀ। ਦੋਵੇਂ ਇੱਕ ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਸਟੂਡੀਓ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਇਸ ਹੱਦ ਤੱਕ ਵਧਿਆ ਕਿ ਚਿਤਰਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਾਕ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਦੀ ਕਸਟਡੀ ਕਰਵਾ ਕੇ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਵਾ ਲਿਆ।
