ਖਾਸ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਲਈ ਸਾਲ ਭਰ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਿਥਿਹਾਸਕ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਾਮਦੇਵ ਨੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋੜਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ੂਲ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਇੱਥੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ੂਲ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਇੱਕ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਥਿਹਾਸਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੇ ਕਾਮਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਰਤੀ ਨੇ ਗੋਪੇਸ਼ਵਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
