ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ‘ਚ ਸੌਰਵ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਗ੍ਰੇਗ ਚੈਪਲ ਦਾ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ ‘ਚ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਚੈਪਲ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਟੀਮ ਦੇ ਕੋਚ ਬਣੇ ਤਾਂ ਸੌਰਵ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਬੀ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ.ਆਈ. ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਨਾ ਲਿਆ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਖਾਮਿਆਜ਼ਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਝੱਲਣਾ ਪਿਆ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਚੈਪਲ ਦੀ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦੇ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਔਖਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਚੈਪਲ ਦੀ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤੀ ਜਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਲਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ।”
ਸਾਲ 2005 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਗ੍ਰੇਗ ਚੈਪਲ ਟੀਮ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਕੋਚ ਬਣੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਚੋਣ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਦੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਨਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਟੀਮ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਿਆ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਸੌਰਵ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਅੱਜ ਆਪਣਾ 50ਵਾਂ ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ਮਨਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਅਖਬਾਰ ‘ਦ ਟੈਲੀਗ੍ਰਾਫ’ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ‘ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਵਾਦ ‘ਤੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਾਏ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੈਪਲ ਦੀ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਗਲਤੀ ਮੰਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਟੈਲੀਗ੍ਰਾਫ਼ ਨੇ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਲ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬੀਸੀਸੀਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਚੈਪਲ ਦੀ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਲਈ ਮਨਾ ਲਿਆ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀ ਗਲਤੀ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਜਵਾਬ ‘ਚ ਗਾਂਗੁਲੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਇਹ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨੌਕਰੀ ‘ਤੇ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਇਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਗਲਤੀ ਸੀ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਚੈਪਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੈਨੂੰ 6 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਬਿਤਾਉਣੇ ਪਏ। ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੱਲੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਜਾਂ ਗੇਂਦਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਐਪੀਸੋਡ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਲਈ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ 13 ਸਾਲ ਖੇਡਿਆ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਲੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਟੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਿਆ। ਖੈਰ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਬ੍ਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ 17 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇਹ 6 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਬ੍ਰੇਕ ਵਾਂਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
