ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਧੋਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਕਪਤਾਨੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਪਤਾਨੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਤਜਰਬਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਪਤਾਨੀ ਛੱਡੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਗੋਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸਫਲ ਕਪਤਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬਣ ਗਏ। ਬੁਮਰਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਮੈਚ ‘ਚ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਹੋਣਗੇ।
ਬੁਮਰਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਜਦੋਂ ਦਬਾਅ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਮਜ਼ਾ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ ਪਸੰਦ ਹਨ। ਇੱਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟਰ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਤੇ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਦਬਾਅ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਥਿਤੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ। ਮੈਂ ਕਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਐਮਐਸ (ਧੋਨੀ) ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਕਪਤਾਨੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਟੀਮ ਦਾ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸਫਲ ਕਪਤਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੁਮਰਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ‘ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਟੀਮ ਦੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ‘ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਅਤੀਤ ‘ਚ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਦੀ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਜਾਂ ਨਿਯਮ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ।” ਜਨਵਰੀ 2018 ‘ਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਟੈਸਟ ਡੈਬਿਊ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੁਮਰਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਭਾਰਤ ਲਈ ਟੈਸਟ ਖੇਡਣਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਪਤਾਨੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਸੀ। ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ‘ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ।
