New Delhi, August 1: India records single-day increase of 57,118 cases, taking COVID-19 tally to 16,95,988 on Saturday while the recoveries reached 10,94,374, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
In past 24 hours, 764 people succumbed to the disease, pushing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 36,511, the data updated at 8 am showed.
There are 5,65,103 active COVID-19 cases in India so far.
The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients was recorded at 64.53 per cent, while the fatality rate further dropped to 2.15 per cent, stated the data.
This is the third consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 50,000.
The total number of confirmed cases also includes foreigners.
The health ministry stressed that more than 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
