4 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਤੋਂ ਗਾਉਣਾ
ਮੇਰਠ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੇ, ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੇਹਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੇਰ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਸਰ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਸਮਾਗਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਲੋਕ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੇ ਬਚਪਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਵੱਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। 4 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ‘ਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ‘ਚ ਗਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਦੰਗ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ।
14 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਘਰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਲਈ 14 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਖਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਘਰ ਛੱਡਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਸਿਖਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਦੱਸ ਦੇਈਏ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ 150 ਰੁਪਏ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ
ਦਰਅਸਲ, ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ 20 ਜਾਂ 21 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸਨੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਰਯਾਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹ ਜਰਮਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਸਤਕਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਯਾਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਠੱਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਘਾਟੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਰਿਸ਼ੀਕੇਸ਼ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਗੰਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਾਲ ਮਾਰਨ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ
ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇੱਥੇ ਫਿੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ‘ਚ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਫੇਲ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਨਦੀ ‘ਚ ਛਾਲ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਖੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਪਰ ਗੰਗਾ ਘਾਟ ‘ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਇਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ। ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੈਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਾਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਰੀ? ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਣ ‘ਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਵਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਸ ਤਪਲੀ ਨੇ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਿਖਾਈ। ਇਸ ਵਾਕ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ‘ਚ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਰਾਤੋ ਰਾਤ ਸਟਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ
ਆਖ਼ਰਕਾਰ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਖੇਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਆਏ ਤਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ‘ਅੰਦਾਜ਼’ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੂਫ਼ੀਆਨਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਨੇ ‘ਰੱਬਾ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਨਾ ਹੋਵ’ ਗੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਨੀ ਸ਼ਿੱਦਤ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਫਿਲਮ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਗੀਤ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤੋ-ਰਾਤ ਸਟਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ‘ਅੱਲ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਬੰਦੇ’ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਕਾਫੀ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ।
