6 ਜੂਨ 1988 ਨੂੰ ਰਿਸ਼ੀਕੇਸ਼, ਉੱਤਰਾਖੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਨੇਹਾ ਕੱਕੜ ਦੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਖਰਾਬ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੈਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਚਪਨ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੀਤਿਆ। ਇਕ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ‘ਚ ਨੇਹਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਖਰਚਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਮੋਸੇ ਵੇਚਦੇ ਸਨ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਕੂਲੀ ਬੱਚੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇੰਨਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਲਈ ਨੇਹਾ ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਰਾਤੇ ‘ਚ ਗਾਉਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਸੁਧਰ ਸਕੇ। ਨੇਹਾ ਕੱਕੜ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਲੈਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।
