ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਦੇ ਮਹਿਮ ਥਾਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਬ-ਇੰਸਪੈਕਟਰ ਸੀ, ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਦੀ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਂਸਟੇਬਲ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹਜ਼ੂਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦਿੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਕੱਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਇਕ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ। ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ‘ਚ ਹੀਰੋ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ। ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਨਿਰਮਾਤਾ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਦੂਬੇ ਥਾਣੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਹੋਏ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਫਿਲਮ ‘ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰ’ ‘ਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਮ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ ਪੰਗਾ
ਅਭਿਨੇਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਲਮ ‘ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਆ’ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤੋ-ਰਾਤ ਸਟਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਏ। ਫਿਲਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਰਹਿੱਟ ਹੋਣ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਰੱਖੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੂਰਜ ਬੜਜਾਤਿਆ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਅਭਿਨੇਤਾ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਪਹਿਲੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਰਹਿੱਟ ਹੋਣ ‘ਤੇ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਦਾ ਰਵੱਈਆ ਸੱਤਵੇਂ ਅਸਮਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਆਦੀ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਲਈ ਰੱਖੀ ਗਈ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ‘ਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ। ਸੂਰਤ ਬੜਜਾਤਿਆ ਪਾਰਟੀ ‘ਚ ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸੂਰਜ, ਸਲਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲੈ ਗਏ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਜ਼ਰਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੌਣ ਹੋ? ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਗੁੱਸੇ ‘ਚ ਆ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਝਾੜਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ”ਬਰਖੁਰਦਾਰ! ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਲੀਮ ਖਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛੋ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕੌਣ ਹਾਂ? ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਚੁਟਕੀ ‘ਚ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ। ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਲਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਗਲਤੀ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਵੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਾਰੀਫ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ 3 ਜੁਲਾਈ 1996 ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
