ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਗਏ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ
Toronto- ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ‘ਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਗਏ 300 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ’ਚ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਹਨ। ਦੋਸ਼ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਦਾਖਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਾਅਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਇਹ ਕਾਲਜ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ’ਚ ਅਸਫਲ ਰਹੇ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਧਰਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਮਾਮਲਾ ਨੌਰਥ ਬੇ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਕਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਾਲਜ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹਟ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਨੌਰਥ ਬੇ ਦੇ ਕੈਨੇਡੋਰ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਪਿਸਿੰਗ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ’ਚ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਕੌਮਾਂਤਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਈਮੇਲ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਪਰ ਇੱਥੇ ਪੁੱਜਣ ’ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਕੈਨੇਡੋਰ ਕਾਲਜ ’ਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਨਾਰਥ ਬੇ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਆਬਾਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਲੱਭਣ ਲਈ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਮਾਲਕ ਮਨਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਦਾਮ ਵਸੂਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਂਝੀ ਬੇਸਮੈਂਟ ਕਮਰੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ 300 ਜਾਂ 350 ਡਾਲਰ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਲਾਂਡਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਈ-ਫਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ 700 ਜਾਂ 800 ਡਾਲਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਰਾਏ ’ਤੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਥਾਈ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ। ਉਸ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ’ਚ ਇੱਕ ਦੋਸਤ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪਿਆ, ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਨਾਰਥ ਬੇ ’ਚ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆਉਣ-ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਵਾਜਾਈ ’ਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 100 ਡਾਲਰ ਖਰਚਣੇ ਪਏ।
ਉਸਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਕਲਾਸਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੈਂਪਸ ’ਚ ਸ਼ਿਫਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਸਭ ਅਣਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ। ਜਿਵੇਂ-ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਧ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਰਕਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਹੋਟਲਾਂ ’ਚ ਰਾਤਾਂ ਕੱਟ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪੀੜਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਂਟਰੀਅਲ ਯੂਥ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟ ਆਰਗੇਨਾਈਜ਼ੇਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ। ਮਾਈਸੋ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੋਈ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਨਾਰਥ ਬੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਧਰਨਾ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਸਮੂਹਿਕ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਘਟਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਕਾਲਜ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਿੰਡਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ। ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਾਂਗੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਾਲਜ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਅਸੀਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੌਮਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ’ਚ ਵੀ ਹਾਂ।
