Little Diomede island: ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦਾ ਲਿਟਲ ਡਾਇਓਮਡ ਟਾਪੂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਜਾੜ ਟਾਪੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ। ਇੱਥੇ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਹਨ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਬੈਂਕ ਜਾਂ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਹਨ। ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਹੈਲੀਕਾਪਟਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ਤੋਂ ਰੂਸ ਦੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤਿੰਨ ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੱਸੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਟਾਪੂ 8 ਵਰਗ ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਸਰਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇੱਥੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਬਰਫ਼ ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਡਿੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਉਜਾੜ ਟਾਪੂ ਰੂਸ ਦੇ ਬਿਗ ਡਾਇਓਮੇਡ ਟਾਪੂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ। ਦੋਹਾਂ ਟਾਪੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸੁੰਨਸਾਨ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਬਰਫੀਲੀਆਂ ਹਵਾਵਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਤੇਜ਼ ਰਫਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਇੱਥੇ ਵਸਨੀਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਇੱਥੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 25 ਇਮਾਰਤਾਂ ਹਨ। ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਇਮਾਰਤਾਂ 1970 ਅਤੇ 1980 ਦੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ। ਇੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਕੂਲ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਇਬ੍ਰੇਰੀ ਵੀ ਹੈ। ਬਹੁਤ ਪਥਰੀਲੀ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਸੜਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇੱਥੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਹੈਲੀਕਾਪਟਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਵਸਨੀਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਬੈਂਕ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਹੈਲੀਕਾਪਟਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਈਂਧਨ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਹੈਲੀਕਾਪਟਰ ਜਾਂ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ-ਚਾਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰੁਪਏ ‘ਚ ਧੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਡਿਟਰਜੈਂਟ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਕੂਲ ‘ਚ ਹੀ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਲੋਕ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਉਜਾੜ ਟਾਪੂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਟਾਪੂ ‘ਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 80 ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਰਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਥੇ ਬਰਫੀਲਾ ਪੁਲ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਜੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇੱਥੇ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ ਗਰਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ 10 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਸੈਲਸੀਅਸ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ -14 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਸੈਲਸੀਅਸ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
