Toronto- ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਯਾਰਕ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਟਲ ਦੇ ਕਮਰੇ ’ਚ 28 ਹੈਂਡਗਨ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਓਟਾਵਾ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ 100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।ਜਾਂਚਕਰਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਉੱਤਰੀ ਯਾਰਕ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਟਲ ’ਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਟਾਫ ਮੈਂਬਰ 21 ਅਗਸਤ ਦੀ ਦੁਪਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਕਮਰੇ ਦੀ ਸਫਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਮਿਲੇ। ਇਸ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਹੋਟਲ ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਫਿਰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਆਰਗੇਨਾਈਜ਼ਡ ਕ੍ਰਾਈਮ ਇਨਫੋਰਸਮੈਂਟ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਦੇ ਸਟੀਵ ਵਾਟਸ ਨੇ ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਹੈੱਡਕੁਆਰਟਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਹੋਟਲ ਦੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੀਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ’ਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਚ ਵਾਰੰਟ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਅਫਸਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਮਰੇ ’ਚ ਹੋਰ 25 ਹਥਿਆਰ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।
ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ 20 ਗਲਾਕ ਪਿਸਤੌਲ, ਚਾਰ ਸਪਰਿੰਗਫੀਲਡ ਆਰਮਰੀ ਪਿਸਤੌਲ, ਤਿੰਨ ਸਮਿਥ ਐਂਡ ਵੈਸਨ ਪਿਸਤੌਲ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਗ ਸੌਅਰ ਪਿਸਤੌਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਾਟਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਬੰਦੂਕ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ’ਚ ਜਨਤਕ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਂ ’ਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।’’
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘‘ਵਧੇਰੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਗ਼ੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ। ਇਹ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ 100 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ’ਚ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਨਿਯਤ ਸਨ।
ਸ਼ੱਕੀ, ਜਿਸਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਜਾਂਚਕਰਤਾਵਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਹਿਮਦ ਫਰਾਹ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਇੱਕ 30 ਸਾਲਾ ਓਟਾਵਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ 136 ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ’ਚ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਲਾਇਸੈਂਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਬੰਦੀਸ਼ੁਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਮਨਾਹੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ 28 ਦੋਸ਼ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ। ਫਰਾਹ ’ਤੇ ਲੱਗੇ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ’ਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਹਨ।
ਜਾਂਚਕਰਤਾ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਟਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਯੂ.ਐੱਸ. ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਵਾਟਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇੱਥੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਲਾਂਘੇ ਹਨ। ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਹਨ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਪਾਰੋਂ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੇ ਯਤਨਾਂ ’ਚ ਸੰਘੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਬਾਈ ਭਾਈਵਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਾਟਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਜ਼ਬਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ 2023 ’ਚ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ 382 ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ’ਚ 1,301 ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
