ਸੁਸ਼ਮਾ ਸੇਠ ਨੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਪਰਦੇ ‘ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਫਿਲਮੀ ਪਰਦੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ‘ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਫੀ ਸਮਾਂ ਲੱਗਾ। 42 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ‘ਚ ਸੁਸ਼ਮਾ ਸੇਠ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਫਿਲਮ ‘ਜੂਨੂਨ’ (1978) ਮਿਲੀ, ਜੋ ਸ਼ਿਆਮ ਬੈਨੇਗਲ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਨ ਹੇਠ ਬਣੀ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸੁਸ਼ਮਾ ਸੇਠ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ। ਇਹ ਉਹ ਦੌਰ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਨਿਰੂਪਾ ਰਾਏ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਬੁੱਢੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਸਹਾਰਾ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਸੁਸ਼ਮਾ ਸੇਠ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਦਾਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ‘ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ’, ‘ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੋਗ’, ‘ਤਵਾਇਫ’, ‘ਨਾਗਿਨ’, ‘ਨਿਗਾਹੇਂ’, ‘ਦੀਵਾਨਾ’, ‘ਚਾਂਦਨੀ’, ‘ਧੜਕਨ’, ‘ਕਭੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਭੀ ਗਮ’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਕਲ ਹੋ ਨਾ’ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ।
