ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਵਿਕਟਕੀਪਰ-ਬੱਲੇਬਾਜ਼ ਰਾਡ ਮਾਰਸ਼ ਦਾ 74 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਹਾਂਤ
ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਵਿੱਚ “ਇੱਕ ਮਹਾਨ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ” ਵਜੋਂ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਰੋਡ ਮਾਰਸ਼ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਕਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਪੈਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। 74 ਸਾਲਾ ਮਾਰਸ਼ ਨੇ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਲਈ 96 ਟੈਸਟ ਖੇਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੱਕ ਟੀਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਚੋਣਕਾਰ ਰਹੇ।
ਉਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਚੈਰਿਟੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੋਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਕਰਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਐਡੀਲੇਡ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਉਸਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਬਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਲਈ ਅਸੀਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਧੰਨਵਾਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਔਖੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।”
ਪਰਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੇ, ਮਾਰਸ਼ ਨੇ 1984 ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ 1970 ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ 355 ਆਊਟ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਤੇਜ਼ ਗੇਂਦਬਾਜ਼ ਡੈਨਿਸ ਲਿਲੀ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ 95 ਦੌੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਰੀ ਵੀ ਖੇਡੀ ਸੀ।
“ਆਇਰਨ ਗਲੋਵਜ਼” ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਰਸ਼ ਨੇ 92 ਵਨਡੇ ਵੀ ਖੇਡੇ ਅਤੇ 1982 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਟੈਸਟ ਸੈਂਕੜਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆਈ ਵਿਕਟਕੀਪਰ ਬਣਿਆ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਡ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਹ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਅਕੈਡਮੀ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਖੇਡ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੇ, ਚੋਣਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਬਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਰਿਕੀ ਪੋਂਟਿੰਗ, ਐਡਮ ਗਿਲਕ੍ਰਿਸਟ ਅਤੇ ਜਸਟਿਨ ਲੈਂਗਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਦਰਜਨਾਂ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਇਆਨ ਚੈਪਲ ਨੇ ਚੈਨਲ ਨਾਇਨ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਾਰਸ਼ ਹਰ ਉਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ।
