ਜਸਟਿਸ ਸੰਜੀਵ ਖੰਨਾ ਹੋਣਗੇ 51ਵੇਂ CJI: ਚੀਫ਼ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਚੰਦਰਚੂੜ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਰਸ਼
ਡੈਸਕ- ਜਸਟਿਸ ਸੰਜੀਵ ਖੰਨਾ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ 51ਵੇਂ ਚੀਫ਼ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਹੋਣਗੇ। ਸੀਜੇਆਈ ਡੀਵਾਈ ਚੰਦਰਚੂੜ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਾਰਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਦਰਅਸਲ, ਸੀਜੇਆਈ ਚੰਦਰਚੂੜ 10 ਨਵੰਬਰ 2024 ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸੀਜੇਆਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਤਰਾਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਰਸ਼ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੀਜੇਆਈ ਚੰਦਰਚੂੜ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਸੰਜੀਵ ਖੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੀਨੀਆਰਤਾ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਖੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਲ ਸਿਰਫ 6 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਜਸਟਿਸ ਖੰਨਾ (64) 13 ਮਈ, 2025 ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਜੱਜ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਖੰਨਾ ਨੇ 65 ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹ ਲਗਭਗ 275 ਬੈਂਚਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਸਟਿਸ ਸੰਜੀਵ ਖੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 14 ਮਈ 1960 ਨੂੰ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਲਾਅ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ। ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਸਨੇ 1983 ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਬਾਰ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਵਕੀਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਰਜਿਸਟਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਜੱਜ ਬਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹ 14 ਸਾਲ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੱਜ ਰਹੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 2019 ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਜਸਟਿਸ ਖੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ 32 ਜੱਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਣਦੇਖੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਦਾ ਜੱਜ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। 10 ਜਨਵਰੀ, 2019 ਨੂੰ, ਕੌਲਿਜੀਅਮ ਨੇ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਮਹੇਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਖੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੀਨੀਆਰਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ 33ਵੇਂ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਸ ਸਿਫਾਰਿਸ਼ ‘ਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਰਾਮਨਾਥ ਕੋਵਿੰਦ ਨੇ ਦਸਤਖਤ ਕੀਤੇ।
