ਰੀਪਬਲੀਕਨ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ-ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਸਰਹੱਦ ’ਤੇ ਕੰਧ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ
Washington- ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਗਾਮੀ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਰਿਪਬਲੀਕਨ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਹੋਈ ਬਹਿਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਕੰਧ ਕੱਢਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਰਿਪਲਬਲੀਕਨ ਵਿਵੇਕ ਰਾਵਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਦੱਖਣੀ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ ’ਤੇ ਕੰਧ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੈਕਸੀਕੋ ’ਚ ਡਰੱਗ ਲੈਬਾਰਟਰੀਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਬੰਬਾਰੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਦੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ’ਚ ਇਕ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ ’ਤੇ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਵਾਰ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਓਨੀ ਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਬਾਰੇ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ’ਚ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘‘ਜਿੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਪਲੇਟਫਾਰਮ ’ਤੇ ਇਕਲੌਤਾ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਅਸਲ ’ਚ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।’’ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ, ਉੱਤਰੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ ’ਤੇ ਇੰਨੀ ਫੈਂਟਾਨਿਲ ਫੜੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਕਿ 30 ਲੱਖ ਅਮਰੀਕੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ। ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਕੰਧ ਨਾ ਬਣਾਓ, ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਬਣਾਓ। ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਲੇਟਫਾਰਮ ਦੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਟਵੀਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਗਰੋਹ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸੁਰੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੀਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਫੌਜ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਦਾਹਰਨ ਲਈ, ਯੂਐਸ ਕਸਟਮਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਰਡਰ ਪ੍ਰੋਟੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ ’ਤੇ ਦੋ ਪੌਂਡ ਫੈਂਟਾਨਿਲ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਏਜੰਸੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਕੁੱਲ 27,000 ਪੌਂਡ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਲਗਭਗ 0.0074 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਹੈ। ਰਿਪਬਲਿਕਨ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਣਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ’ਚ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੱਧਦੀ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸੰਖਿਆ ਯੂਐਸ ਦੇ ਕੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, 2022 ਦੇ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਸਿਰਫ਼ 2.7 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ’ਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਬੰਦ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਅਸਲ ’ਚ ਕਰਾਸਿੰਗ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਰਾਮਾਸਵਾਮੀ ਰਿਪਬਲਿਕਨ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦਗੀ ਲਈ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਧ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਪਿਛਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਸਕਾਟ ਵਾਕਰ ਦਾ 2016 ਦੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ’ਚ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਦੀਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਮੂਰਖਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੇਰਹਿਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਜ਼ਾਕ ਉਡਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
