Editorial standards
How TV Punjab decides what to publish, how we check it, and what we do when we get it wrong. These standards apply to everything our journalists produce: on air, on this site, and on social media.

Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the newsroom alone. Ubiq Broadcasting Corp. owns TV Punjab, but no owner, advertiser, sponsor, carriage partner, government body or political party reviews a story before publication or decides what we cover.
Our journalists do not accept payment, gifts or travel from people or organizations they cover. A reporter with a personal, family or financial connection to a story steps away from it, and the editor reassigns it.
Original reporting
A TV Punjab byline means our own journalist did the reporting: attended the event, conducted the interview, or obtained and read the document. Material from news agencies, other outlets or press releases is credited to its source and is never presented as our own work.
Stories in Civic & Community are reported in person by our B.C. journalists. The daily news bulletin summarizes the day’s national and international news, with sources credited.
Verification
- A contested factual claim needs two independent sources, or a document we have seen ourselves.
- We do not publish on the basis of a screenshot, a forwarded message or a social media post alone.
- Video and images from outside sources are checked for date and location before use, and credited.
- When we cannot confirm something, we say so in the story.
Sources
We name our sources. We grant anonymity only when naming a person would put them at real risk of harm, and only when the information cannot be obtained another way. The editor must know the identity of every anonymous source, and the story explains why anonymity was granted.
Fairness and right of reply
People and organizations facing serious allegations are contacted before publication and given a reasonable time to respond. If they decline or do not reply, we say so.
Elections and politics
TV Punjab does not endorse parties or candidates. During election campaigns we offer comparable opportunities to candidates in the races we cover. Paid political advertising is labelled and kept separate from news.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertising is clearly marked. Sponsored content is labelled “Sponsored” at the top, is never written or presented by our reporters, and never appears in news sections.
Use of AI tools
Our journalists may use software to help with transcription or translation. Every story is written, checked and approved by a person. We do not publish AI-generated images as news photographs.
Corrections
Errors are corrected promptly and at the same prominence as the original. Corrections are noted at the foot of the story with the date and logged on our corrections page. Report an error to contact@tvpunjab.com.
